Trimble, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is investigating a shooting incident where a person was possibly mistaken for a wild turkey and injured on May 7 at Smithville Lake. The person who fired the shot left the scene. MDC conservation agents are seeking information about the case and would like to interview the person who fired the shot.

Conservation makes Missouri a great place to hunt and fish.

Is it just me or do the majority of these "hunter shootings" seem to happen when bird hunting? I absolutely freak out every time a muzzle swept across my head but the number of times it's been done with a rifle is very low...but with a shotgun? I've lost count. I think the nature of shotgunning for turkey, upland game & waterfowl makes it the most dangerous hunt of all. Scares the crap outta me.

I agree with Bruce. I don't dove hunt because I don't like being around drunks with shotguns. Love quail hunting, but only go with my family members.

I can see how folks are peppered while dove, quail or duck hunting or when someone swings on someone while going after quail or phesant but I do not get it for turkey's. It just such a different process with calling and decoying I do not fully understand how these things could happen. You need a good visual for a clean head/neck shot with a shotgun it's not like pass shooting a flying or running bird is a common or successful process.
