Leaving Malibu and moving to Paso may be the hardest decision I have to make so I'm looking for people in the area to ask questions about lifestyle, schools, and raising kids. Please give me a call at 310 457 6129 .

Malibu,
Welcome to "darn near paradise"...
This area is definitely more relaxed and down to earth than Malibu. The schools in the area are very good, of course that is because of the teachers and parents. I have lived south of Paso for over 30 years and one of the reasons I moved here in the first place was because of "the quality of life". The hunting and fishing is a heck of alot better than Malibu, as you will notice by the amount of JHO's from down south coming up here ...
I will give you a call via landline...

raising kids: great
schools: good, budget cuts aren't helping
Lifestyle: Hard to say. I don't always lock my truck at night. There is a certain amount of undesirables. Considering Iv'e visited Malibu a few times...For the most part people are not so dollywood and are mostly easygoing and friendly. Less of a city attitude and a lot more good ol boy. People seem to be more aware of agricultural/outdoor lifestyles from ranching to surfing. Hunting seems to be more accepted by the public. People are more that way here than Malibu. Definately cheaper realestate and related costs of living. If you are looking to buy the way I understand it is that the market is kinda paused and some prices are dropping a little.
Check into the surrounding areas of Paso. Ie Atascadero, Templeton, SanMiguel. There are plenty of places out of the city limits. San Miguel is very small but I think in 10+ years will be growing alot.

Good Luck If you make the move welcome.

Thanks to everyone who gave me a call to tell me all about their experiences living in the area. I haven't had to make a big desicion like this since I opted to ask the big questions. That took me three years to do and now I need to make the moving decision in a few weeks. I'll be heading up in the next week or so to talk with some potential employers. If I get all the things I'm asking for then there's a good chance I'll be inviting some of you over for dinner to talk about hunting. -Mike
