Missouri commission clears way for elk return

The Missouri Conservation Commission on Friday approved a plan to reintroduce wild elk to the state for the first time since elk were depleted here in the 1860s. Up to 150 elk are scheduled to arrive in early 2011, probably from restored herds in Kentucky and Arkansas. The elk will be quarantined in their home states to check for health problems before being moved to Missouri.
