Hunting report
The hunting report will be published each Thursday during the waterfowl season. Reports are based on reports as of Wednesday from the Missouri Department of Conservation, the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
Missouri waterfowl
• FOUNTAIN GROVE: 15,000 ducks (mostly mallards); 200 Canada geese. Hunting has been good; 33 of 42 shooting positions are in use.
• SWAN LAKE: About 80,000 ducks (mostly mallards and pintails); 70,200 geese (70,000 snows and blues, 200 Canadas).
• SQUAW CREEK: 24,000 ducks (60 percent mallards); 400 Canada geese. There is no water in the two main pools.
• BOB BROWN: 43,000 ducks (50 percent mallards); no geese. Hunting has been very good. Heavy hunting pressure. Parties are being turned away at the drawings.
• GRAND PASS: 31,700 ducks (mostly mallards); no geese. Hunting has been fair. Heavy pressure. Parties are being turned away daily at the drawing.
• FOUR RIVERS: 57,500 ducks (45 percent mallards, 20 percent pintails, 15 percent green-winged teal, the rest a mix); 1,750 geese (mostly snows and blues). Hunting has been good. In the first three days of the season, 183 hunters took 798 ducks.
• SCHELL-OSAGE: 18,000 ducks (mostly teal, gadwalls, mallards); 3,200 geese (3,000 snows and blues). Hunting has been good. Shooting positions still available some days. In the first three days of the season, 264 hunters took 1,052 ducks and three geese.
• MONTROSE: 4,000 ducks (50 percent mallards); 14,000 geese (snows and blues). Water conditions are poor. Only six blinds are in use.
• SMITHVILLE: No report available.
• OTTER SLOUGH: 40,000 ducks (mostly mallards); no geese. Hunting has been fair. Heavy pressure.
• DUCK CREEK: 5,400 ducks (40 percent mallards); 85 Canada geese. Hunting has been fair to good. Heavy hunting pressure. Parties are being turned away each day. In the first three days of the season, 315 hunters took 717 ducks.
