Good points Speck.... Thanks for keeping it real.

A good indication is that, if a regular truck won't fit on the road, then neither will the grader/dozer. It's probably not a "bladed road" and shouldn't be used.

Kelly was referring to bladed roads that were blocked with boulders and trees, as several of those roads down in steep canyons can get in the winter. They are mapped and bladed every year. For example, there is one road down Palos Altos Canyon we would have had to turn back right away in a truck but instead got about 1/2 mile to the end (up to a big fallen tree) and we were able to walk to the rest of the way through to where it opened up into a very nice area we wanted to check out. The other way through to this area was Pasto Ria Canyon which was a mess and not safe in any vehicle. So in this case we wouldn't have been able to get there at all with trucks. I guess he was trying to highlight how happy we were with our Rangers and the capability it gave us but in the delivery it (understandably) was construed as going where we shouldn't.

Here's the video from Monday evening including a stalk on some pigs, just none big enough that we wanted to take... At the end there we decided legal shooting time had ended and I started making some pig sounds (not quite) to see what they would do... Of course they turned tail.

When we perched up on the log there they were between about 60-80 yards. When we walked down after they started walking away we got within about 40. That smaller boar (130lb-ish) that walked in from the other direction crossed us at about 40 yards as well.

The biggest pig (boar) was about 180lbs. I was going to take it with the bow but I had forgot my release back at camp :bag-on-head:!

Instead we just watched and enjoyed the stalk/scenery. This is one of the great things about the spring membership.. no pressure at all and no regrets passing on a pig. We passed on many this trip...

Kcravit, I will also be up there this weekend with the spring pass. I will be camping at the South area campground, but will not be arriving until around 9:00 pm Friday. I have been on a few JH hunts with Phil and Jesses gang, so maybe we have met before.

Anyhow, if you see a red Expedition w/a jayco pop-up come by and say hello.

Good Luck & hopefully we do not get rained out??

Hatchet, no worries about passing on a pig around these parts! If it ain't draggin' teats or striped, it's probably gonna get an arrow or a TSX put through it.

Well finally got to put my pass to work today. What an awesome trip. Didn't see any pigs but we did see 3 good size ELK and 3 DEER. The elk crossed in front of us less than a 100 yards. Then stoped and stared like who are these guys on our turf. Can't wait to get back out maybe tomorrow, but for sure this weekend. C ya out there :wavin hello:
