I called my buddy in Montana last night about hunting this fall. He says that there are so many wolves in the area that the elk are even harder to find than in the past. It's the same with the deer. Everything is either eaten off or extremely difficult to find and when they are found, they're spooky to say the least. He went the whole season without even seeing a live elk. They found sign and jumped a few, but no fur was seen. He didn't paint a very pretty picture to say the least.
I've got my application made out and the check drawn up, but I feel like I'm about ready to toss it all out the window if I send it in. Still I enjoy the hunt and camping in a wall tent in the mountains, plus the pleasure of their company. There's more to hunting than just killing, but I'd like to know that I have a fighting chance before I start. That's a lot of money for a non-resident for just a camping trip.
I'll kick it around for a few days before I decide. What do you guys think?
Damn wolves. The anti-hunters that turned them loose are getting their wish come true.
