This post is a few weeks late. Been busy none stop for the last 3 weeks. My twin brother and I went to a friends ranch with a few other guy the 2nd weekend of May. We went to hunt gophers. These gopher are just another type of ground squirrel. The ranch located on the Canadian border in Cut Bank Montana. Well the first full day we woke up to snow and 31 degree temps.
My brother wasn't prepared for that so we drove into town to get him some good boots to keep his feet warm. On the drive, while still on the ranch I didn't expect to see any gophers up due to the weather so I was surprised when my brother pointed one out. I stop the car and got my Savage 12fv in .223 out. Load a single 45 grain JHP and took aim over the hood of the rental car.
My brother picked up his camera with the long telephoto and we both aim at the gopher. I told him go and he started shooting pictures with his 7 frames per second motor drive. Once I heard the camera going I squeezed the trigger. Well you can see the results below. Best shot ever!
After that we went to town, got his boots and came back to the ranch. I was so cold the 3 days we were there that we just hunted from the car as we drove thruogh the fields most of the time.
Not full speed shooting but it was fun enough. We used my savage in .223 and our friends Franklin F-17 in.17wsm. This was the first time my twin has ever done anything like this. He had a blast.
