Gents,

I would just add that 6A is generally your best bet since the numbers are higher than any other unit. A lottery is a lottery. But, if you go with the higher tag number units, your chances of drawing a tag increase. And this is primarily for archery hunters. Rifle, forget it.

If you are looking for the best chances for a non-guided bull elk hunt with a rifle in the U.S., Montana's Gardner late hunts are still your best chances these days. There are better and cheaper places to find that 380+ bull, but If you want the best chance to pack your rifle in search of a nice bull, Montana still holds that ticket.

Shane,

You are correct that Unit 6 A does have a large number of tags for both Archery and Rifle. But it is also the most highly sought after unit, for those reasons. Also remember that only 10% of the Bull tags go to Non-residents. Best chance of drawing a Unit 6A tag are going through the AZGF Hunter Education Course and putting in for a Cow Elk tag. Good Luck to all..
