I used the T-con lens this morning and got some fairly good results.

Do you have any idea of how long I've been trying to get both a male and female cardinal together in the same shot???
<
<-- ENVY! They always seem to keep a distance of at least ten feet from each other whenever they are around.

All of the images look outstanding Hideandwatch! The DOF in the third image is perfect!

Thanks Paul...thing is with the cardinal shot, I wanted both to be perfectly focused and they are not...so I have some work to do. There have been lots of Cardinals, male and female side by side at my feeder and all around the yard. I set out my new hunting blind (cabelas 4 seasons popup blind) today so hopefully I can get some real close close ups. I want to try with and without the T-con, the T-con does really well close
Thanks for the comments!

I think you might be able to get away with just sharpening the males mask and beak... and then maybe trying to dodge & burn his eye to have it stand out a little (I wouldn't worry too much about the eye since it is surrounded by black). And... if you find a way to get two birds spread out like that "perfectly focused," PLEASE LET ME KNOW! It isn't an easy thing to do. I think the compromise is the way you shot the two sparrows with the foreground bird in focus (I love that image).

*I'm guessing they are sparrows, I don't have my field guide in front of me.

Nice pics. See a lot of cardinals here. Had males and females together in the pea gravel around our pool the other day and by the time I got my camera and changed lenses they had spread out too far to get the shot I wanted, often it is all about opportunities.

Here is one of my favorite cardinal pics I have managed to take.
