hey yall just wanted to no your most memorable hog hunt. please tell me what gun you were using [if you rember] . mine was when i was squirll hunting in south dokata when i was 9 with my cousin matt. he had just bought a scope for his 270 for deer season i was using my grandfathers 223 and i was just blowing away those squirlls as fast as i could see them.when i saw something in the brush about 200 yards away i thought it was a coyote and if i shot it i could sell the fur and buy some ammo. so i snuck up on it about 100 yards up i realized i had a great head shot i looked through the scope and i fired when i walked up to it and i realized it was an ugly hog. so i ran back to the truck and got matt he came over and measured the tusks 3 in a half inches and he weighed 157 pounds

I would say it was my second hog hunt. Shot the first hog I had ever seen. I had moved to CA from Eastern Canada and got an invite from a couple of friends on this site for a hog hunt in Sonoma. Took a nice meat sow, about 100 pounds with my bow at 39 yards. I was a pretty happy camper.!!

I would have to say when I was a youngster in Iran. My grandfater, father, uncle, and me went on a hog hunt. It was snowing and really cold. I was watching every move my father made while he was trying to teach me a few things. Then almost out of no where steps out a huge herd of pigs. Everyone takes aim (except me, too young to hunt) and we open fire. After that 6 pigs were knocked down. I still have a picture of me sitting on one of the big boars, looks like I am riding a horse. I wish I could live that day one more time.

This an easy question for me. I've been hunting hogs for about 15 years, and have taken about 10 hogs or more. All these hunts were fun and I had a great time. But the most memorable hunt for me just happened this year. I was able to take my boys hunting this year, and they both ended up taking hogs. It was fun watching them get the shakes when the hog came in close enough for the shot, and then the excitement when approaching the downed animal. I'm sure i'll have a lot more hunts, but nothing will ever compare to these.

I have several exciting hog hunting stories. For the past 10 years I have been one of the few lucky guys that have been able to hunt Santa Cruz Island on a regular basis. Without going into detail, basically trading work on the island for free hunting. Well here is the story behind this pig. One December about five years ago I took a twenty yard broadside shot at this real nice hog. I hit him perfect, right behind the shoulder (I swear) but not great penetration through the shield. Broadside shots on big boars with an arrow is not a great shot, wait for a quartering away shot on the big boys. The short story is that we tracked this pig with good blood and saw where he fell down a few times but the blood ran out and I lost him. I hate that.

Return to the island a month later and stalked two big boars. I killed both of them!!!! Well me and my buddy walk up to the one in the pic and think he is awsome because he is so hairy. Long hair on his snout and cheeks, ugly, so I thought that I would mount him, which I did. I start to skin him and we notice that he has an injury behind his left shoulder. Like a softball under his skin, you can see it in the pic. We took the pic and I started to investigate the wound. It was filled with puss (?). My buddy, who was with me a month before when I lost the hog, looked at me in amazement when I pulled out 6" of arrow shaft from his chest, not his paunch. The broadhead had unscrewed and was also inside his chest. My arrow and broadhead. The three blade hole had healed from the outside. When I shot this pig there was no indication that he was hurt and he ran away after the shot just like a normal hog. True story! I have a lot of respect for hogs, one tough animal. Ed F

My most memorable would certainly be my first Tejon trip. My brother flew out from NC to join me, which made it pretty cool. We both tagged out also, which made it even cooler. And to make it so cool as to freeze the whole thing in my memory, I got the opportunity to meet several of the JHO guys for the first time.

The story is too long to re-post here, but you're welcome to check it out right here on my home-site.

The next trip to Tejon was memorable too, but for totally different reasons.

Last year Texas got one with my bow. All my Texas buddies with me when I hit this nice boar under our feeder at 27 yards. Nothing like harvesting a animal with a bow. This was my first. After my heart quit hammering and I thanked God for providing, had cigars and victory beers with the buds. I'll remember it forever.

I think it's been 4 years now, but the way I got found Jesse's site was because I was looking for info on hunting Javelina. My cousin goes to Arizona for Javelina and I was going to join him for my first archery hunt. Jesse has a post about a drawing in Calif. for a depredation hog hunt on Santa Cruz island for hogs. I talk to all my cousins and friends and we pair up for the drawing. My cousing LJ and I get drawn!! To get to the island, they fly you over from Oxnard, about 20 miles in a 8-seater. Nobody else asked, so I got the co-pilot seat!! When we go to land, there is a strong crosswind, so we're landing and I'm looking to my right as the plane is crabbing about 30 degrees ( at least it seemed like it)!
We land, set up camp, go about 200 yards out of camp and we stir up about 10 hogs. My cousin says he sees 1 go into a manzanita bush. We work our way closer, and start throwing rocks to get it out of the bush. Since the bush is on my side, I keep getting closer and closer, throwing rocks and trying to see anything. I finally get right up on the bush and hear a snort! Just 3 feet in front of me, but blocked by limbs of the bush, is a HOG!! The gun I had (which I borrowed from from my cousin) was a .308 with a scope. I aimed as best I could and shot. With a high pitched squeal, the hog started backing away. I shot again and he went down, but was still moving away. I shot one more time and he stopped moving away.
By this time, my cousinn had joined me, and he used his 30-30 to put one more shot to the head. Then he started laughing because he said when I came up to the bush and saw the hog, I started doing a "Pig dance" as I tried to load a round and get the first shot off on the pig!! I don't think my heart calmed down for half an hour!
We mark the spot and about half an hour later scare up some more pigs and I get another one. This time it's runnig away, but pauses on top of a ridge at 200 yards and I put the scope to good use. My cousin is happy for me, but I can tell he's anxious to get a hog, too.
The next day we head out of camp in different directions. I go towards the ocean, decide there's nothing there and head back to camp. We had switched rifles, so now I had the 30-30. I get back to camp, have a little breakfast, and start looking for LJ. Over the hill come 8 pigs! I grab the rifle, chase 'em down and get 2 more pigs! LJ hears the shots and joins me. He's still excited (and even more anxious to get some pigs). That afternoon, we go down to a riverbed. We spot 2 hogs and LJ gets both of them. He gets the first right were it stands and the second as its going away!.
6 pigs in 2 1/2 days!! It's a hunt I'll never forget and I have Jesse's to thank for it!
