Two years ago this month while making a career change I had the idea that if I was ever going to get out of Kalifornia I should start looking then. April of 2004 we moved to Star, ID and built our dream home, which we moved into Dec 2004. Our reasons were many(quality of life, better opportunities for our 3 sons, make our real estate dollar stretch farther, and last but sure not least finally give me a chance to do some real big game hunting) My first year here was spent driving, walking, talking and listenting to anyone and everyone I could about deer and elk hunting and suprisingly enough as long as you didn't come right out and be pushy about getting info many locals offered good advice. I spent my first 3 days elk hunting last year helping 4 guys pack out there elk with my new horses. Bottom line I learned alot, and we even managed to get my 13 year old son his first buck, on a private ranch during a late season junior hunt.

Well this year produced no book trophies but we had the kind of year I've waited all my 38 years for. I don't want to take to much time to load some pics on here, so I put together a photo album on webshots so here is the link:

One question? I took my 4 quarters to the butcher, but cut my backstraps and vacuum sealed them yesterday. They hung in near ideal conditions for 3 days. Was that long enough? Can you age in a fridge, or is the humidity not right? Anyone no any good books on butchering and boning.

That worked.....great pics, what day should i arrive next year?
Seriously though, congrats to you for getting out of this state.....i'm trying my best to be the next to leave. Idaho's a great place to live.....and from the looks of it, the hunting ain't bad either.

Quacker, I think we all are envoius!

3 days sounds fine. I have hung Elk for longer and shorter. It seems as long as you get it cooled quick, it turns out ok.
