I am being offered a job up in the Portland area, most of the things I've been able to locate on the internet makes it look pretty great. I'm just wondering if somebody could fill me in on how the upland bird hunting is and the general areas to go in relation to Portland. Thanks for the help!

I lived about 90 miles east of Portland in the desert about 15 years ago for only a few years but think you'll have to switch over to Pheasants from Quail. Altho they have some Mountain Quail, you better be in good condition to hunt those dudes on the 45 degree slopes ha ha, and they are few and far between I think.....

but there are a lot of pheasants to hunt

Most of the major pheasant hunting that I know of is all on private land or hunt clubs. Around the Portland area you can get into grouse country faster than you will pheasants. There just doesn't seem to be very many quail around as there used to be.

Although grouse hunting is easily and illegally done from the pickup, like most around here do it, it does feel good to get out and stretch the legs on the 100% slopes.

Go east from Portland for pheasant, chukar, valley quail, huns, dove. Anywhere from 2 hrs to 7 hrs. Within an hour west or east you can get into blue or ruffed grouse, mtn quail, and bandtail. Get on the ODFW web site, they have a booklet on Game Bird Hunting in Oregon. Tells you what's available and where they can be found. Also, has great info on public wildlife areas. There is good/great/awesome birding in Oregon depending on how much work, money, and time you want to invest. Just like most anything else.
