I'm in the Marine Corps and might be moving to Ft. Leonardwood.  I was wondering if anyone could tell me about the hunting and fishing in the area.  Mostly hunting.  I enjoy big game, upland, and water fowl.  Any info would be great.  Thanks in advance for taking the time to reply.

It's also got a lot of Nat'l Forest around the Post you can hunt on, include Fishing as PassThru mentioned....

There are Feral Hogs around there too, to hunt

Thanks for the great information.  It is strange a Marine on an Army post, but that is where the Military Police school is and I will be an instructor there if everything works out.  It also seems like a great for the outdoorsman.  Again thanks for the info.

You will be very happy with the hunting and fishing close by. Trout, Smallmouth, largemouth are all close with some huge lakes near by. You will have more public hunting ground near by than you will be able to cover in a lifetime. If you are hunting the two legged does then go to the Rockin R on Thursday nites in town. I have gone to some of the police special forces schools there and they are excellent. The instructors are very cool, laid back, and know their shit. The training facilities are unbelievable. Let me know if you go I could give you some names of fun instructors to hang out with.

my family has had a place just south of ft wood for 30 years now.....fishing is good for smallmouth esp. on the big piney...the gasconade is close as well and there you can catch just about anything....ft wood is surrounded by national forest ...the paddy creek wilderness area is about 15 minutes out of the south gate, about 10,000 acres of pretty wild woods...deer and turkey hunting is good ...
