Pardon my use of a colloquialism. We were in the Great Basin biome hunting for Sylvilagus nuttalli, Lepus californicus , and Cains latrans. The particular expanse of Pahoehoe lava was sutuated in a transtion area between wintering and summering range for the local Odocoileus hemionus . The discovery of the deciduous cervid bone was happenstance and quite incidental to the pursuit of the lagomorpha specimens.
