I'm thinking of hunting GMU 70 in Colorado this year (early season) with my muzzleloader. Does anyone have any recommendations for areas to focus on in unit 70? I was looking at the Mt. Wilson area or maybe the Beaver Creek Drainage... Has anyone hunted there before? I've always hunted gmu 65 with success and am looking for a change of scenery.
I prefer hunting by backpacking in up wilderness trails. I don't have horses, so I'm not looking at hunting more than 6 or 7 miles from a road or trailhead. Any help would be appreciated!

I know a party that has hunted 70 for years during the fourth season. They say it's great if there's been snow up top. Otherwise, they don't do so well where they hunt--they stay in town and head out there like a lot of folks do the late seasons. I'm not sure if they switched over to the 3rd season or not last year.

I've read the Lizard Head Wilderness is good too--I have no clue how Mt. Wilson stacks up to other areas in that wilderness. I've also read that the summer elk habitat is better north of the ski area in 65 than in 70--seems like unit 65 & 70 both get quite a few archers.
