once i got to the ranch and cabin a few of the other guys where already gettin setteld in and going for a tour of the ranch with Chopper, but i was ready to hunt and ask Chopper to point me in the right direction and headed out to the Thompsons cabin location. once i got there it was all freshly rooted up and started to hunt the area, i spent about an 1 1/2 there but nothing going on. so i get back to the truck and noticed a gate that went down into the canyon to a nice medow so i treked down about a 40 min walk, once i was in the medow area i only walked a couple hundred feet headeding down into the forest area and 2 nice hogs:hog chewing::hog chewing: around 275 trot by me about 150 yrds away stop in the open medow and start rooting it up, now i am caught in the wide open within veiw of them and i just freeze trying coming up with a quick game plan.
there was a treegrove hillside 80 yrds to my right that if i can get to it without being noticed i would have a good chance on a successfull stalk and shot opp. so while they were buzy rooting i squated down and scooted fast and made it to the grove with out being noticed now my distance was down to 100 yards where i took the photos i posted in my Chopper live post.
they where still in the open so i still had to close the distance some more for a shot opp. but the only problem now is i have to get to another clump of brush and trees that another 50 yrds from me within the pigs veiw, i knew this would be tuff, i started a step by step kneel crawl every time there heads were down i would make a move across the open feild my hart was starting to race as i got closer, by some miricle i make to the other tree grove and now i cut the distance to around 80 yrds and they were still in the in open rooting, i waited patiantly as they were moving a little closer towrads my direction, :lol bashing sign:NOW THIS IS WHERE I F-UP! they were not getting any closer i had to make a shot except now i realized my rangefinder was behaind two jacket layers i woud have to unzip to get to and i was afraid the unzipping noise woud get there attentoin and they would bolt off so i decided to instinctively range the shot which i thought was at my max 6o yrds one of the hogs was broadside i took the shot missed and the one hog flinched and went back to rooting but the other one was starring dead at me and they didnt run off yet so i loaded another shaft quickly while he was starring right at me and got another shot of on the other hog but right over the back again, now believe it or not after two shots ( which i missranged) they still were not sure what happend and just walked off they didint bolt! so i waited till they got far enough and retrived my arrows and followed them into the woods still without spooking them....To Be Continued....tra

That's why they make rangefinder cases that hang on your belt, dude.....

I've done the same thing, so I feel your pain.

You should have tried to walk up to them with you pocket knife in hand and slit their necks. Sounds like they would have let you, may be even showed you where to make the incision.-I would have done the same thing. I can't wait to hear the rest.

............and somehow they went over a burm and pulled a houdini on me but after about 15 minutes i found there fresh tracks and scat and followed them back to a feild rooting under an oak tree just 80 yrds away that was doable for another shot opp., except it was almost dusk another problem now was they were on privite property, i just squated down by the fence post and drooled like a wolf for another shot opp. then they started to walk the fence line and maybe cross back over but it did'nt happen they just dissapeard into hillside as my hart dropped. i had to head back to the suv it was almost dark when i ran into JD229 and he had encounterd the 2 hogs himself but did not get the shot. he gave me ride back up the steep hill and we shared stories back to the lodge, it was an exciting first day and an awesome stalk thats for sure......still more...tra
