Here's a picture of my wife's first bull taken last fall.It was a goal of hers to take a bull. She has had cow tags but if we had meat in the freezer her heart really wasn't into the hunt.Last year she asked if I would help her find a bull.On the next to last day we were lucky enough to find this big 6x5.She got in on the whole experience (a.k.a. work) of a successful elk hunt.He was so big we had a hard time getting him positioned to work on him.She got right in there and helped me with field dressing ,skinning on the ground, boning the meat out and packing it out to the 4-wheelers.She even wrapped it when we butchered it. She doesn't care if she bags another elk. She says 1 bull like that is enough for anyone in a lifetime.

Beautiful elk!! Your children looked pretty excited also.

What part of OR are you in - it looks like John Day area? I live 30 mi south of Lakeview and it also looks like the area just at the border.

Nice pictures.

OR186 - Yes, this is a beautiful area. The Warners herd did take hold and has spread down to the South Warners. We saw 3 bulls on our place last year (we live 22 miles south of the border) and were lucky enough to find a complete set of dropped horns from one of the bulls. There are definately HUGE elk here now. I know of a 9 x 12 bull roaming these parts - no I'm not exagerating. The guy that saw it was 15 yards from it. He and a friend were bugeling for them and the elk came in just as it got dark. It was too dark to get a picture and the guy was only able to count out the 9x12, but he knows there were more points that he couldn't make out because of the lack of light. We've heard of many Boone and Crocket size bulls being seen. My husband and I go out for a ride a few times a week to our elk wintering area on our ranch, but haven't seen any there - just all kinds of tracks, hair, droppings, and so on. I figure if we are persistent we will see them!!

Congratulations again on your wife's elk!!
