NDOW BUSY STOCKING STATE’S FISHABLE WATERS

While several years of drought or near-drought have resulted in very low water levels in many areas of the state, there should be no shortage of available fish for Nevada anglers in the upcoming fishing season.

Nevada’s fish hatchery system will produce almost 1.5 million trout in the coming year. Of these, more than 1 million will be catchable sized fish that are at least eight inches in length.

In the state’s western region, more than 460,000 catchable rainbow, bowcut/cutbow, cutthroat, brown and brook trout will be stocked in the region’s waters. An additional 240,000 fingerling fish will be stocked as well as 70,000 trout eggs.

In the eastern region of the state, some 434,000 catchable, and 50,000 fingerling fingerling fish will be stocked into the area’s waters.

In the Southern area of the state some 213,000 trout are projected to be stocked into the areas streams, lakes and urban ponds. Additional plants of warmwater fish such as catfish will be stocked in Las Vegas area urban waters throughout the summer.

You can rest assured that just about wherever there is a good water source and a highway or a dirt road, a Nevada Division of Wildlife fish truck will probably be paying a visit.
