Anybody have any info on the CA bow only tag up north. Either sex hunt #411. Big Bubba Daddy and me are looking to apply for that hunt. I saw the pic of one bowhunter with a nice bull in the Big Game booklet.

377 hunters applied for 5 tags last year so it will take a miracle. 40% success it what DFG has listed.

Any info on access and areas would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Howdy Jesse,
I just got off the phone with fish and game... The area is huge, includes Siskyou, Modoc, Lassen, and shasta counties to some degree. He told me all 5 bow hunters hunted the same area east of Mcloud. I put in for the hunt as well, with my preference point! Fat chance but you never know. If you get drawn, throw out a post and I'll share my specific landmarks with you- Good Luck- Mike

Jesse,
I put in for the same hunt w/ a friend of mine Tom (aka: tutone) and he supposedly has an area picked out that his uncle had success w/ last season. I will try to get it out of him. I heard also that the folks that get picked for this hunt end up hunting in pretty much the same area. I'll do a little research and post what I find.

It used to be called the Mt. Shasta Rocky Mt. elk herd (X1)--there were rocky mt. elk planted there by DFG.

But, there are herds moving into NE CA from Oregon (maybe plantings too) more towards Nevada over by Likely and in the Warners--X3a/X3b. Maybe some have been seen in X2 too...dunno.

They'll probably start seeing bands down as far south as Susanville in the next decade.

Good strong herds in the North Warners and on the Davil's garden. No herds were planted here, they just moved in.

Ditto on what Ranchwife said. I talked to a rancher up in her neck of the woods a couple of years ago and he had four six-point bulls in his back pasture the previous winter. elk moving into that country on there own.

Does anyone know a landowner with Elk on the property? Just thought I'd throw it out there and move this thread back to the top.
