I have never owned a custom rifle before, but have decided to build one.(well, have it built) I have a Remington 700 CDL in 270 winchester brand new never fired with a 24'' bbl. collecting dust in my safe. It has already had a trigger job. I would like at least a 1/2 moa rifle. Having the action tuned is a given I guess and that will be the first on the list. So my first question is should I have it rebarreled to start with or have the fact barrel lapped and give it a try. Also if i have it rbarreled I will probably go .280. Does the Ackley offer any great advantages over the .280 Rem. Next, should I have the factory stock pillar bedded or should I go ahead and spring for an H.S. precision or similar? The company I am looking at has an option for 65 bucks to "tune" the H.S. Precision when they install it, is this common because I have never heard of it before? Sorry for the rant and thanks for any help.
