I am working with Buckmaster's trying to put on a Mobility Impaired Disabled Wild Boar Hunt in California, for Veterans, recently injured folks coming out of rehab, and anyone with any sort of MI disability that wants to get out hunting again or for the first time. I am working with Buckmaster's on the project as event coordinator. I have Sportsman's Warehouse ready to donate to the event to help make it happen. I am looking for a RANCH in California that would like to donate(possible tax write-off as charitable donation, publicity and advertisement in local media and general goodwill to the hunting community, etc) a hunt to some Disabled Vets, Kids and Adults. I am also working with the National Wild Turkey Federation(Wheelin Sportsmen) to put on a MI Disabled WILD TURKEY hunt in CA. I am also looking for a ranch to donate a hunt for MI Disabled for Turkey. I have found a ranch that is interested in putting on a Pheasant Hunt for disabled folks in CA so that is in the works and hopefully will take place this fall.

IF any of you know of any ranch owners that may be interested in helping some disabled folks get into hunting by donating a hunt let me know with contacts, names, phone #'s. If anyone would like to help as a guide let me know. I am trying to figure out of if there are opportunities for persons with MI disabilities to hunt Wild Boar and Turkey in California. Any advice as far as where this can be done successfully would be greatly appreciated.

I was hoping for a better response also but I will not let that keep me from making this happen. I will make it happen. There are good people out there and some of em are guides and ranch owners. I will find them eventually, it make take some time. There are hunting opportunities for disabled folks going on back east, but I want to make something happen out in the far west CA and NV. Personally I have wanted to go pig hunting for over 20 years, and just hunting for anything all my life. Hunting has been the one thing that has alluded me. Don't worry we will get some disabled folks, Vets, Kids Adults out there hunting one way or another.

As far as your questions... that would be up to the ranch owner/guides(guides don't have to be registered guides but anyone that wants to help out and volunteer and share their knowledge and pass it on and teach some folks about hunting etc) that donate a hunt as to how many disabled folks(the more the merrier, even 2 or 3 would be great for a start) and how many days(1-2-3?, Personally, I would be happy just to see a wild boar out running around through binoculars). I am quite sure I can get them ranch/guides a tax write-off as a IRS Charitable Donation so that may be a motivating factor for a ranch to step up and donate a hunt and help make this happen. I am still exploring the tax write off stuff. As far as the disabilities I would be wanting to help out persons with severe mobility limitations and disabilities of all kinds, any one that wants to hunt.....Vets, Kids Adults, anyone

Hi Paul,

I just finished reading what you are trying to accomplish with the different hunts and they sound like a wonderful cause. I do not have a ranch to donate a hunt; however, I have been hunting my entire life and would love to help where I can. I've been hunting wild pig for three years now with good success. I live in Rancho Cucamonga, CA and if there is anything that you feel I will be able to help with please let me know. I would be more than willing to donate some time to help the day of the event or whatever/whenever. Shoot me an email at naturedriven@hotmail.com.

Paul. I got your phone call yesterday while I was out scouting for this weekend's hunt. I am also in the middle of prepping the house for sale. I will get back to you soon.
As long as we can do this hunt in the fall, I can help you out, no problem. I'll be in touch. My season is getting into full swing and I am also moving. Controlled chaos.

Thanks. Tom

Your questions Answered>>>#1 As far as rifle hunts only?
I want to get Disabled Vets, Adults and Children with disabilities out hunting. I am not knowledgeable about hunting pigs and how this can be done for a person with mobility impairements in CA. I see numerous hunts for disabled folks taking place around the country but no one is helping disabled kids, VETS, Adults etc to go hunting in the State of CA or NV.. It will likely be rifle hunts from a vehicle(MI persons can legally shoot from an ATV or 4WD Vehicle) or whatever gives a mobility impaired person a reasonable chance at success and a FUN Outdoor Hunting Experience. I know alot of hunting takes place from blinds and many disabled folks do this in other States. From what little I know of hunting I gather pig hunting from a blind is not feasible. Is it possible to get up on a ridge between feeding areas and bedding areas and for a disabled kid to get a shot? That is what I am asking also? IDEAS ON HOW THIS MAY WORK.

#2.) How do they choose participants? I am co-ordinating the hunt, trying to make this happem, so depending on how many individuals a ranch will allow for a hunt, I will choose the most severly disabled hunters first and most in need.
Example. Today at Sportsman's Warehouse I met a woman who informed me of a child that is dying from severe physical complications, kid can still hunt if we get him the opportunity. The young man has wanted to go hunting with his father. The father has tried to get help from the State of NV to help out but got turned away. They have no funds to travel to eastern states that have disabled hunts going on. This is why I am trying to make some hunts happen in NV and CA. Other States have lots of help for a family like this. New Mexico for instance has a Mobility Impaired Season. NV and CA do nothing to help. That is why I am asking you people for help and ANY INSIGHT for HUNTING OPPORTUNITES for disabled folks. This child and family situation would be at the top of any list to go hunting.

I haven't given up on this yet. I would like to get some Afganistan and Iraqi disabled vets out of rehab and out hunting in California. If any of you can help please contact me. I need your help. I am still looking for a ranch and guides to step up and help out our disabled veterans.

Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hey BigTusker,

Read everything above.
I am working on expanding hunting opportunities which are non existant in CA for persons with disabilities.
I am trying to put on a disabled hunt for turkey or pigs in CA for Disabled Veterans and persons with disabilities.

About myself I live in Reno, NV. I had a spinal cord injury in 1981 and have used a wheelchair since, I don't walk I use a wheelchair. I flyfish the Sierra's for trout 4+ days a week from a kayak(just gettin home from 3 days on Lake Davis). I Ski all over the Sierra's and anywhere else in the country I want Co, OR, Utah anywhere. Skiing is easy, I get in my Jeep and go skiing, hunting isn't so easy for myself and others with disabilities. I have no past experience with hunting, I know little about hunting and how to clean out an animal. I need help with that and hunting in general. I want to make it easy for persons to hunt in CA. Persons around the country are helping to expand hunting opportunities I am hoping to see the same in CA.

I have taught Alpine(Downhill)skiing to persons with every disability imaginable at Alpine Meadows, children with CP, MD, Blind, Adults with MS and Spinal cord Injuries etc etc etc. ANYONE can snow ski. I have been Sailing SF BAY with persons with disabilities and have been involved with BAADS, We have blind persons and persons with severe quadriplegia sailing SF BAY through BAADS. The BAY AREA ASSCCIATION OF DISABLED SAILORS. I work part time at Sportman's Warheouse in Reno NV, SW is ready to help donate to a disabled hunt.

I am trying to create hunting opportunities for all persons with disabilities in CA especially recently disabled Veterans that have served our Nation in the War against Terrorism and are coming out of rehab.
I have contacted NWTF and Buckmasters and I am working with these organizations in an effort to create hunting opportunities for disabled persons in CA.
