I really want to get into hog hunting but have a couple problems. I live in San Diego County. Very few hogs. So I want to try paying for a hunt with a guide for my first time. I have a 270 that I use for dear (130 grain). Is this gun big enough? Our deer down here are pretty small down here. Does anyone have any recommendations as to an outfitter? I am looking for something around 500$ so I hope this is not out of line. Last Question, I am a decent shot out to about 200 yards, past that it has to be perfect conditions for me to even think about shooting. Is that good enough for most pig hunts? Thanks for all your help. YD

send me an email - I have a long list of hunting guides with notations. However, none are 500. The going rate is $600+ and that pretty much means they will get you a hog. The list is too long to put on here.

If you want it for under $500, contact Eric at Cottonwood hunting. you will find him here on JHO. His rates are in your range and they are small group hunts... Alternately, look up the hunts that that get arranged here on JHO - they had one recently.. You would learn a lot from going with the group...check out http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/showthread.php/250529-Wild-Pig-Hunting-Inc-VIII

Your firearm is fine and 200 yds. is plenty. Good luck.

Thanks for the shoutout asaxon, you were my first hunter and will go down in the record books!

I'm booking hunts now for 2015. My 2015 prices are still $250 "Flat Fee" per person plus $200 "Kill Fee" per pig. That's a total of $450/person, assuming each person harvests one pig (no guarantees). Two nights of lodging are included in that price at no extra charge. Here are a few of my past hunts:

I have a hunt coming up this month, and I will be sure to post the results here on JHO. Wish us luck!
