I am new to this board and this is my second yr for this shed hunting. So far this spring I have found 27, so I am pretty excited about that.

Ok, here's my dilema, I found a huge 6pt and it scored roughly, 73 2/8, I went back in there to find the match and I found his Daddy!!

They have matching kickers on the G2 and this one has 10 pts on his left side, it scored roughly 91 1/8. The mass is awe inspiring, and they were found within 20 yards of each othere. Matter of fact I found 6 sheds within 30 yards of each other. Probably a bachelor group hanging out together. Anyway to say the least I have not slept in a week!!!!!!!! I dream about this deer, and its always on my mind. I try to walk this area every chance I get but have not had any luck finding the right side of either dad or son. I have put together 5 matches just trying to find the big boys. Some pairs have been anywhere from 10 ft to 400 yards apart.

How close do you guys think this right side is???

Any advice or help would be appreciated. I have heard they are usually within 30-100 yards, you guys agree?

Love this site, and your pictures!

Let me start by saying, I wish I was having the same problem as you. My advice for you is to go back, and settle down. Start circling the area. Start from where you found each shed and make a small circle. Then widen it by maybe only 5 yards. Circle again. Just keep it going, and no matter what keep that line. If it means walking through stuff where you dont' figure there is anyway there is a shed there, then still walk through it because you never know. Just take your time and concentrate. The other sheds shouldn't be more than 200 yards from where you found the originals... now that doesn't make it a guarantee, but with sheds of that size I would bet the matches are close.

Welcome a board and CONGRATS on all your finds!! I wish I had your same problem too.
If you go to page 3 Feb.10 there was a thread started by D Letho asking about matched sets,"A couple questions for you pros".Maybe you might find some answers in there.
To me it sounds like your already doing what I'd do,covering alot of ground in that same area.I would do a grid pattern search covering the entire area surrounding where the first halves were found.I'd break the area down in sections and take one section at a time and cover every square inch.Keep extending your search further and further out.Don't get distracted when you come to good sign and wander around following the sign, stick to your grid seacrh.Keep your back and forth passes close where you know not even a small shed would be over looked.
Good luck and if you come up empty.I'm sure you could get plenty of volunteers on this board to help you.I'll befirst in line.LOL

Golden Boy,

I want to congratulate you on a super find. Now I am going to try and give you some ideas to consider as you try to find the matching side.

If you have a good typo map and a GPS, that will help you out. What type of area did you find the sheds in, was it thick beddin area, open woods, feedin area what? Do you have an idea on the deer's track?

Most people think like a hunter and want to place a tag on the buck next season. Can you ID his track? Do you know the length of his walking stride?

Your two choices on searching or either a square grid approach or a circling approach. You don't want leaving any areas out when you seach. The closer you are to the location of the first side the greater the chance you will find the second side. Why? The shed is large and heavy. The buck would probably kick the remaining shed off their head.

If you have a trail cam, you can get a picture of the buck. At this time of year it is more for locating him. If you locate him, then the trails between his pic and his dropped shed become areas of high probability.

We folks on the forum love pictures. Sure would be nice to see a picture of those huge antlers. Once again, congrats on a super find. The old saying, wise old bucks spend 90% of their time in 10% of their range. I believe you have found 10% of their sheddin range. Good Luck.

Also, it may be your second year of shed huntin but you have found a spot many guys only dream of finding. I can only imagine what it felt like to reach down & pick up the big antler. Please get us some pics. Welcome and thanks for a great post.

I have no digital camera guys, sorry!

Update, spent about 3 hours in there today, found a nice pair of a 6pt. This is my 5th matching pair on this property. They were about 2 ft apart. Then I hiked one last fence row and found another shed, it matched a 4pt right side found last monday. Thats matching set #6. THe bad news is that these sheds were found about 400 yards apart. All are 8 or 10 pt bucks with nice racks but for the life of me can't find the matching set of the 2 biggest ones. I have put 4 sets together and the distance between matches is always a huge distance, so this is getting me depressed. Its a city deer so he has about a square mile range to run, he can't go nowhere else. They all seem to like to run fence and tree rows. I think I have found over 15 different buck sheds on this propery, that is pretty amazing.

Oh well, I only can keep trying. Today I found that matching left side in a place I thought would never have a shed, so I must keep looking in the not so obvious places.

All I can think is, this is a 20pt buck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats on your new finds and sorry the big guy's sheds are still laying. You need to do that grid pattern search and cover everything which will include the more likely areas he'd drop and the not so likely too.
You didn't mention these were suburbian deer in your first post. Those deer won't let the closeness to people stop them from their daily activities. If your not searching areas thinking the deer will avoid them cause of that, you better get back out there and start searching them.I've found sheds laying in yards already,my biggest shed ever laying a couple hundred yds. behind an apartment complex on one side and houses on the other side.It was probably only about 100 yds. behind the closes house on the opposite side.I found 3 this year alone laying in yards only feet from the homeowners backdoor.
Good luck and keep us posted!!

golden boy,

I don't have a digital camera either. I take my 35mm film to Walgreens and have it burned to CD. The quality isn't quite as good, and it would be nice to post pics of my finds as I find them instead of waiting to finish a roll of film before developing, but at least this would allow you to share some of your successes. You can bring negatives in and have them burned to CD too. If you don't have a walgreens, I'm sure many places do this. Its a little extra leg work, but lets see em.

Sounds like you have been having a blast driving yourself crazy looking for the two big matches. Good luck, that would really cap what sounds like an already great season.
