After getting our butts kicked earlier this month in Nevada there just wasn't enough snow to push the Elk off the top of the mountain we glassing large herds in several spots they where to far to hike in a day we did find some Elk lower an we went after them with 3hr hikes only to have the wind change an bust them out .Hopefully the resent snow has the elk down lower this area where going to is about 50 miles back on dirt roads where will set up camp and then 20 more miles up the mountain where we think the Elk will be. On our first trip up we had four guys and two trucks so we always had a back up incase we had problems this trip its just two of us and one truck not realy the best set up with temp as low as 5 degrees and highs around 25 witch makes for a lot of planning. Hopefully by Sunday we will have an Elk or two down

If the temps are really gonna be that low, bring extra coolers to keep your food and maybe even your elk from freezing. An animal hangin in cold weather, wrapped in a tarp and an added lantern to keep it from freezing.
Have fun out there.

Well no Elk where killed this year i our group we got up there last Thursday morning it was still snowing with temps around 20 clearing up around noon set up camp checked the guns and good thing both where off loaded up the truck and headed out we started by glassing the 8 to 10 miles up in the high country that where packed with snow the first two hour we where happy not to find any with hopes they where pushed down then later that day we where disappointed to find a large heard about 150 head they where about half way up the mountain this would take a full day hike to get to them. The next morning we where out early with temps -1deg to check a burn area where we have see them in the past we hiked around the burn area glassing all morning with no Cows only three nice Bulls that walked 50'in front of us. We hunted into the dark Friday we hit it hard all day Saturday only finding fresh tracks just before dark Sunday we went back to the are where we found the tracks by 8am we found 2 cows up high feeding and walking over a hill and after two hours trying to get up there and they where nowhere to be found. Even with tag soup this hunt a lot of fun from driving threw snowy mountain roads cold temps hiking our asses off and we where able to kill 4 coyotes with a 22
