Well this will be my first time to Tejon. I have never been there. I don't know where the southside is or even North. I live near NorthEast Bakersfield. What can I expect? What can I bring (tent or trailer)? Not asking for hunting spots, but what should I look forward too? Is there alot of people (in prime spots)? How is the camping (in campgrounds or pick spot)? Can you have a campfire? Thanks for any info!

Tejon south side is basically to the east of the 5 freeway about where Fort Tejon is. There is a designated camping area where you can use a tent or a trailer. If you are going to the Ham Slam, overcrowding will not be a problem. The south side is about 40,000 acres. Camp fires are not permitted if it is too dry.

Hey Pro:

Yah, that south entrance is about at the top of the grade coming from the north. You check in at the hq, and they give you a map to the south gate. Piece o cake. Camping is about five miles inside the gate. It's just a big flat area with some oak trees. No hooks up at all. They have allowed fires if things are wet. If not, they have allowed enclosed fire rings. If the wind is howling, I wouldn't even light a match. If you have a trailer, bring it. The wind destroys tents big time.

As for hunting. Pretty basic. Get up high. Glass. Find pigs. Stalk. If they aren't coming out from cover, start charging the bedding areas. I've never seen it too crowded. Plenty of area for 50 or more.

I'm going in March. Can't wait. See you in May.
