new binocs

If anybody is looking for an inexpensive pair of binocs with hand ground optics and great clarity you might try looking at Foton 7x35s. I just got a pair and am impressed. They are made in Russia and modeled after the Zeiss roof prism system. I paid $97 including shipping. They are not waterproof, so I will have to be careful in the rain. I tested them at dusk last night and boy do they let in a lot of light. Do a google search for Foton binoculars.

I would never have a pair of binos, that were not waterproof...at any price.

Try anougher European bino, that is waterproof, and endorsed by Soldier Of Fortune, as a top quality, tough as nails, bino. Glass, by Schott Glasswerks, Germany

Tell me more about these Fotons. How clear are they in low light? Any glare in bright conditions? Which site did you order them from? Why didn't you get the 10 x 40's?

I got them from kalinka optics

I didn't get the 10x40s because they didn't have them, and I wanted the increased field of view. The 7x35s at kalinka are 89.95.

They are very clear and bright even in low light. The image does get a teeny bit blurry at the edges, but you don't notice it in the center of the image. I have also been looking at Oberwerk 8x42 at bigbinoculars.com

They look like a really nice pair of binocs for $130

Those Oberwerks are the cheapest I've seen that claim to be phase-coated. I tried to find reviews on them. All I've found were reviews on the larger astonomer pairs for Oberwerk. But the reviews were favorable. I guess these are Chinese-made and they gave it a German sounding name to be clever marketers. It would be interesting to look through those 8x42's though.
