Hi all, I'll be spending June through August in SLO County and looking for both hunting partners and general tips. I've mostly hunted in the NorCal foothills, Sacramento Valley, and the Bay Area. Apart from the Panoche Hills, the public lands in Central/SoCal are foreign to me, which is why I want to spend the summer there.
I'll be there for deer, rabbit, and maybe the archery squirrel/quail/chukar seasons. I assume I'll be spending most of my time in Los Padres NF (Santa Lucia, Garcia and Machesna Wildernesses), but I'll also check out Carrizo Plains, San Rafael Wilderness, and Big Sandy WA—maybe FHL too.
I'm good at doing my own research on spots, so I don't need locations, just general advice. Like, do you actually see chukar in the SLO area? Is it worth going through the paperwork rigmarole at FHL? Whatever else you're willing to impart, I'm all ears.
Send a direct message if you wanna meet up.
