So when bow hunting up north in drug country, it is ilegal to carry a sidearm for protection?

Is this a CA thing, or the same all over the country?

What if one has a CCW and carries concealed, still can't do it?

Thank you.

The regs say that if you're hunting during archery season or with an archery only tag, then carrying a sidearm is forbidden.

is the rule the same for rifle hunting here In cali? I also wonder what the rules say about what guns you can have as
you ride your horse in the back country?? I know the Lt. Col always has a saddle rifle and a cowboy six shooter on his side.
So I wonder the law on this.
thank you for the info.

Legal for me in Indiana to have a side-arm while archery hunting (CCW). Also legal to have my bow and a 44 Mag on my hip for hunting during the overlapping archery and firearm deer seasons.

if its general season you can hunt with a side arm. As long as its not archery only area you are ok. Also check local and county regs. No size limit as far as I know. no ccw is valid during hunting they should have told you that in your ccw class.

Personally, I would not admit to breaking or considering to break a firearm or game law on a public forum.

Its the law don't break it, why not shoot a doe without a tag ? these are game laws also do we just break the law and do what we want ? i dont carry during archery never have never will its the law. I just thought of something "Insurance" if i am out hunting deer with my bow and arrow and am attacked and killed by a Cougar but i have a side arm on me i wounder if my wife will be able to collect the insurance or not, under normal circumstances she would "but" i was breaking a game law wounder if my carrier is exempt from paying my love ones because i broke the law ?

Are you really that afraid to be in the woods without a sidearm? Its way more dangerous in the city do you carry a side arm there?

I usually carry in the city(always if I go to SoCal or the Bay Area), I seldom carry in the woods.

I got to ask the Lt. Col what he thinks about this. If I am understanding right. He is not suppose to have his saddle rifle and side shooter with him while in the back woods, if its boy season.? I am guessing it wouldn't matter if he is not hunting? He always has those 2 guns if he is doing long rides in the back country.

Unlike Indiana, Georgia regulates archery season to exclude CCW. We're not SoCal.

I can't and wouldn't, but then I don't have the same initiative that you do. My advice is "don't". The regs are plain and simple.

None of your business what my reasons are, I'm asking if it is legal.

Now before you jump on me for losing my temper, keep your condescending tone to yourself. And yes, I carry in the city, depending on the city and cirumstance.

Not if you're hunting with an AO tag. The regs clearly state that if you're hunting an archery only zone or tag, then a sidearm is not permitted. However, if you choose to hunt archery method within a general or rifle season, in CA, THEN you may carry.

CCW holders can not carry but there is an exception to the rule. See regulations below.

California Code of Regulations, Title 14, section 354. Archery Equipment and Crossbow Regulations.

(h) Except as provided in subsection 353(g), archers may not possess a firearm while hunting in the field during any archery season, or while hunting during a general season under the provisions of an archery only tag.

And then there is this section from the F&G Code that exempts peace officers.

F&G Code, section 4370.

(a) In every area in which deer may lawfully be taken during the general open season there is an archery season for the taking of deer with bow and arrow. The season for each area shall be as the commission may prescribe, with a minimum interposing interval of three days immediately preceding the regular open season on deer in that area. Except as provided in subdivision (b), a person taking or attempting to take deer during such archery season shall neither carry, nor have under his or her immediate control, any firearm of any kind.
(b) A peace officer listed in Chapter 4.5 (commencing with Section 830) of Title 3 of Part 2 of the Penal Code, whether active or honorably retired, may carry a firearm capable of being concealed on his or her person while engaged in the taking of deer with bow and arrow in accordance with subdivision (a), but shall not take or attempt to take deer with the firearm.

Well I'm sure it would cost you your CCW.

I mean if one's intent is to poach, why would they bother bringing a bow along? I guess if one is dumb enough they could shoot a deer and then try to pass it off as a bow kill, but something tells me this lall won't deter them anyway.

Don't do it in CA during archery season. Now, my state sorted that out and you can pack during bow season. Why? Because our state Constitution states that it is the right of the individual to bear arms and that overrides any regulation the state might try and come up with. It's not necessarily a bad idea in our south coast which is cartel pot central. And it is becoming way too common for cats to sneak up on bowhunters while they are sneaking on deer/elk. Me personally, that's just more weight to carry so I don't.
