First I want to say thanks for such a great forum, I can see now I will be logged on often. Here is my 1st hog will have to post again to get brothers hog on , can't figure out how to do both on same post. Hogs were shot on 5/8/04
Thanks 77hiboy
Thanks guys for the congrats. Hogs were taken on 48,000 acres of private land in Colorado. My white hog was estimated at 900lbs and my brothers red hog was estimated at 700lbs. The big one soaked up 3 .45-70 rounds and 1 .308 round before he dropped, the distance of 1st shot was thirty yards, as I was shooting a T/C contender in .45-70. Man let me tell you when that thing charged my heart was going 90 mph. You can contact me at bigblue77ford@yahoo.com for guides info or other quetions. Once again thanks for the congrats and for such a great forum.
sdhntr I smell it to, it's jealosy I'm sorry your hogs aren't as big and yes it is a feral hog we have no wild pig population in Colorado so we hunt what we got, even if it is a feral hog.
OK I will be the one to say it, there is no way in hell that pig weighs 900lbs.
Second, there are no jealous people on this board, if you know the kind of ranch Big Tusker had you might be jealous of him, not the other way around.
Third, no one here is trying to knock on you. Congrats on your pig, but when something is wrong about a post people call you up on it. That simple.
Fourth, and by no means am I calling you a liar. I have seen it before, people just don't know how to guess the weight of an animal, its an honest (but exaggerated) mistake.
By the way, welcome to JHO
P.S If feral hogs are the only hogs Colorado has, then I guess there are no other alternatives (unless out of state)
Shot if you go back and read the post the jealousy statement was aimed at sdhntr, not bigtusker. Also the weight was estimated by the guide and the processor, the pig never hit the scales. Not trying to make any one mad as I'm new here and new to hog hunting. Thanks for the congrats and the headsup, from now on I will have the pig weighed and include certification.

I am by no means jealous. The post was in reference to MANY other threads that have been posted on this board over the years when some one shoots a floppy eared, short snouted hog. I am not chastising you at all. I am glad that you hunt and got out to enjoy it with your family. I am not one to say that the way I hunt, or what I hunt, is better or worse than how you do it. We are all hunters and we must unite to defend our sport. I was simply referring to other posts in the past when people have shot hogs such as yours. Please realize that here in CA we hunt hogs that are VERY wild animals. They are every bit as wild as your CO deer and elk. They look very different than the hogs you killed. I am not insinuating that your hunt was not a challenge or a bonefide hunting experience. I was not there so I know nothing about it. I am just saying that most folks on this site are used to hog hunts with animals that look quite a bit different. I am not supporting one side of the argument or the other, that gets us no where, I am just referring to what has happened on this board in the past. Please do not take offense. I am in no way jealous. I have shot more than my fair share of wild hogs and am going hunting in two weeks. CA has the best wild hog hunting in the country, why would I be jealous?
OK 77, since I'm from both Colorado AND California I'll stick my neck out. Colorado has California beat in just about every aspect of the hunting world. If you sense a little snickering it's because it's rare that we get an opportunity to feel this way in comparison to other states, especially Colorado! SD is right about our California hog hunting, and we can't help let it out sometimes. Welcome to JHO though!
Wholly Hell that thing is a monster.
You should have jumped on his back and rode the dern thing back to camp!
Many congrats. That is a pig right there!
Hey, have any of you guys seen that picture of what looked like a 400+ lb. boar and the guy behind it? The next picture was the same pig looking more like a 130lb. boar and the man. Difference was in the first picture the guy kneeled down aprox 10' behind the pig and took the picture. Had me hook line and sinker untill I saw the second pic with the explanation.
Anyways, I still think it looks like a nice pig and probably one hell of a good eater. Congragulations
