Next Pig-O-Rama set for Dec. 7-9 at Tejon Ranch

The Tejon Ranch will host a Pig-O-Rama the weekend of  Dec. 7-9, and the hunter who bags the heaviest hog during the three-day event will win $500, according Don Geivet, the game manager at the ranch.

The “Ham Slam,” as the event is also known, costs $300 (and all hunters must also have a $10 insurance policy), and the hunter bagging the biggest field dressed hog between Friday and Sunday will win a $500 prize. Winning hogs in most of the recent Pig-O-Ramas have been around 220 to 230 pounds.

Tejon guided hunts cost $650 for one pig, and the price includes all accommodations, meals, and field care of the pig. You can add a second pig for $350 more. Success rates have been nearly 100 percent for the guided rifle hunts. The Pig-O-Rama is a bargain hunt on the Tejon, besides being an opportunity to win $500.

For more information, contact Don Geivet or Sandy at, Tejon Ranch Company, P.O. Box 1000, Lebec, CA 93243. Telephone: (661) 663-4208 or (661) 663-4209.

I hope to scrape the $300 together.  It sounds like a good hunt and who knows...there'll probably be a few folks from this forum who'd be good to meet.

Sounds like fun. I understand there is a lot of pork running around there. I remember the same hunt being offered with a $1000.00 for the winner.

I take it this hunt is non-guided.  Has anyone hunted there without a guide?  Can you drive your truck around?  Will they give you maps?

I hunted there without a guide.   Find the water.  There are alot of springs, and you will find the pigs.  I saw about 40 pigs in two days, including a huge boar which scared the Sh.. out of me while I was driving down one of the roads.  The maps they have are not detailed.  Cal Gold in Pasadena has all kinds of maps.  I took a nice meat sow. There were lots of mosquitos!!!

Not to bad of a deal for a weekend hunt.  Do they provide the meals and rooms or do we take care of that ourselves?  It really does not matter.  I will be there.  Hope to see alot of you there.  It would be nice to meet some the folks that are members on this site.

lets just say that if you only brought a knife to hunt with you would leave with a pig. farm pigs. they have some nice anterler animals though. i shot a nice full curl texas doll with a redhawk 44 mag. i would not recomend a rifle though, you could shot an animal on the other side of the ranch with little or no problem.
