Went up to the ranch with a buddy this morning. We got there around 7 and walked for an hour or so, then split up with him heading down one valley and me down another. Gorgeous morning, with deer browsing, turkeys gobbling, and ducks on the ponds. Around 8:45 I sat down next to a tree that overlooks a wide spot in the valley where a family of hogs has been seen a few times. No more than ten minutes later out trots the family, about six sows and a bunch of piglets, just on time! It couldn't have been easier - I already had my gun on my shooting sticks and had been passing time by aiming at a tree that was about 10 yards away from them! 225 yard shot with my -06, hit her in the neck severed her spine, DRT. She was a nice sow, 175 lbs with a thick layer of fat. At the butcher now.

That will be some good eating. Congrats! Curious if you have a butcher in Marin that handles it or do you take it somewhere in Lake County?

I usually use Lakeview Market in Lucerne. Kenny does a good job and is very reasonable. From time to time I'll take one to Buds in Penngrove as they make awesome pepper sticks, but they're pretty pricy. A few years ago I took a deer to Rocky's Meats in Marin next to the Civic Center.

I've never taken anything to Bud's but I've had stuff from there and it is very good. I have a place here locally but they are also kinda pricey, but very close to me too. I'll check out Rocky's Meats. Thanks!
