Went up to the ranch today, arriving about 11 not expecting much in the middle of the day. After glassing the valley for 10 mins or so I got on my quad for a ride and as I started it I noticed movement across the valley It was a herd of sows and piglets making their way down into the valley, with most of the sows Hampshire striped. All I had to do was wait as they gradually worked their way down and across about 75 yards from me. I put the crosshairs of my 270 on a nicely striped sow and pulled the trigger... click! Bad primer! Cycled another round in and got back on the same sow with better results the second time around.

Nice fat sow, about 140 lbs on the hoof. Gave it to a local firefighter as my freezer is full. IMG_5208.jpg

Sorry for the sideways pictures, don't know how to rotate them...

Nice job again. Living the dream my friend. Always cool to have your freezer full and plenty more to share. Congrats. Throw up the horns for those bad little piggys. Thank you for sharing. Very cool to know some of you guys are still out there getting it done.

Awesome
Looks like someone lost some Hampshire pigs not that long ago and now hunters get to clean up:hog chewing:

Nice job. I got this one a few hours later than yours out here in Central Texas. I hiked around for hours through forests, swamps, vines, etc., nothing. Got on my ATV and in 5 minutes got 3 pigs up sleeping under a Cedar tree. btw, I was told the term is "Belted" for this type of pig. It is a Hampshire as jindy pointed out. Originally they came from Northern England and Scotland.

Nice hog. Texas BBQ time now. Don't forget the blue bell. I guess that pig is like a Dutch Belted cow. Pretty cool look on both animals. image.jpg

Nice!!...but can't rotate a picture? really?? right click picture and click rotate...here I'll rotate it real quick and throw in some appropriate special effects. Still waiting to read about you sticking one with a bow too, have you tried yet?? Also, I would like to trade you incentive to kill another pig for the pig meat. I picked up a meat grinder and have a good domestic pork fat supply so I'm big into trying to make good sausage right now. Lemme know.
