Nikon recalls some Coolpix 2000 cameras

Following Nikon UK's recall of certain Coolpix 2000 digital cameras, Nikon USA has also recalled models of the same camera.

A note posted to Nikon USA's Web site home page indicates that certain models of Coolpix 2000 cameras can potentially "experience a circuit problem in the battery compartment that could cause excessive heat which could be dangerous."

Nikon noted that the cameras must be replaced to prevent the possible risk.

Nikon said that affected cameras contain serial numbers in the following range:

Between 3010001 and 3060980
Between 3510001 and 3561916

Users with camera serial numbers that are in this range are encouraged to either call Nikon Customer Service at 800.645.6687 or e-mail cr.nikon@attglobal.net with "Coolpix 2000 Return" in the subject line. Specific details and more information are available from the Web site.

Thanks for this info. My wife bought me one of these as a gift just 2 months ago. I will check out the serial number.

By the way, these things are really SUPER.

Pocket sized, optical and digital zoom, lots of features,

I would have never bought it because it is 2.0MP but the pictures are crystal clear. I can see now that there would NEVER be a need for anything with better clarity.

If the battery doesn't blow up, I will be 100% happy with it.
