Nikon Unveils Its Ultimate Hunting Optic
2/11/08
Nikon is proud to present EDG, a binocular for those whose adventurous spirit and dedication to success demands performance above all else. The most dynamic and advanced binocular in the company’s history, EDG (pronounced “edge”) was engineered using Nikon’s latest cutting edge technology, but refined by nearly a century of glass-making heritage.
The new EDG binocular harnesses the optical superiority of Nikon’s legendary and costly ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass to push the limits of optical perfection. Coveted by the world’s greatest photographers in Nikon’s legendary Nikkor® lenses, this exclusive glass was developed to eliminate chromatic aberration that occurs when light rays of varying wavelengths pass through optical glass. Nikon EDG binoculars offer the same results to the world’s most serious optics users—high contrast, high resolution images that are razor sharp and free of flare.
Nikon’s EDG optical system incorporates phase-correction coated roof prisms to enhance resolution, as well as dielectric coated sub-prisms to maximize light transmission. Interacting with fully multicoated lenses and ED glass, the high-grade prisms deliver extremely bright, clear, vivid images across the periphery of the viewing field.
The Nikon EDG binocular was designed for ergonomic functionality, durability and precise balance in the hand. Its magnesium alloy body--sculpted into a sophisticated, open bridge quadrangle package—offers ruggedness at a sensible weight.
Nikon engineers added thumb-indexing contours to the underside of the 42mm body to encourage the same comfortable hand positioning each time the EDG binocular is called into use. The EDG is waterproof and fogproof, O-ring sealed and dry nitrogen filled to handle the toughest conditions
To further enhance viewing pleasure, a thoughtful and convenient dual-phase central focusing knob provides both precise focusing and diopter adjustments in the EDG binocular. This single, multifunction control locks the focus when diopter correction is necessary for unparalleled speed and convenience, yet discreetly integrates it within the central focus knob itself for understated style.
Available in two distinct models—42mm and 32mm—the Nikon EDG is offered in several magnifications to suit virtually every user. With 42mm objective lenses, Nikon is introducing a 7x, 8x and 10x model, while with 32mm objectives, the EDG is offered in 8x and 10x. In all models the Nikon EDG features long eye relief (7X42-22.1mm, 8X42-19.3mm, 10X42-18mm, 8X32-18.5mm, 10X32-17.3mm) and twist-out, click-stop eyepieces for an optimum view with or without eyewear.
As some hunters prefer using ergonomically contoured horn-shaped eyecups to block out peripheral light from the eyepieces—yet some do not—Nikon has included them in a quick detachable style with each EDG binocular to accommodate both points of view.
The Nikon EDG will be available Spring 2008 at Authorized dealers nationwide.
Suggested retail pricing for the EDG binoculars are as follows: 7X42 $1,799.95, 8X42 $1,899.95, 10X42 $1,999.95, 8X32 $1,749.95 and 10X32 $1,799.95.
