Come on now...there is more to the story than that, right?

Please share on SOME of the details...

Bugling?

Fighting?

Responding to calls?

Weather?

Please?

any of you that have ever Elk hunted know that its 10% skill and 90% luck and the grace of God.
this one was feeding up high and we had glassed him, had to climb around the top of the mt and cut him off, it was a 37 yd shot uphill, by this time it was dark, had to leave him until morning, he done everything the books tell you that a hurt animal wont, he did not bleed a drop even thought the sot was well placed behind the shoulder, just a bit high,, he went uphill another 1/2 mile over some terrain that was tough for us to get through, but knew it was a good shot and we tracked him by his tracks, the Gilas have had rain everyday, so he was leaving good tracks. unless you have been there, you cant apprieciate how tough the territory can be. there was no way to get horses close, we had to hoof him out on our backs about 3 miles, it makes you apprieciate the hunt.
the others that were harvested were grateful for theres as well, 2 cows and a spike bull, they wanted meat, and took what came first.
the Gilas and the Apache are beautiful, unit 23 joins 15 and the 16's HD areas, if any of you get the cahnce, hunt it, there were lots of elk, bear, and muleys. some of the best mule deer i have ever seen.
congrats to all you other guys (and Gals) that harvest an elk with your bow, any is truly a trophy.
good huntin to you all, it's time for me to concentrate on whitetail here at home.
God bless
