I think I would have taken it in, and hoped they let me keep it. It obvious it's old.

What a nice rack. Bummer to have to leave it. The shed in my avatar is one we found on the San Carlos indian reservation in Arizona. I had to leave that one as well. What a bummer to leave stuff to rot.

Yep it's a bummer but I'm all for it if it helps stop poaching.
What's even a bigger bummer for you is having to leave a shed antler...that makes no sense at all.

I've always heard that the small critters gnaw/chew on antlers as their only source of calcium.

Yeah having to leave a shed behind is very dumb. However it can bring big trouble if your caught with one on the indian reservation.

I'd be willing to bet that a majority of people who found that skull and rack would have found a way to get it home. You're a better man than most of us. I have a hard time understanding the thinking that goes into restricting the picking up of sheds and heads w/sheds. I don't believe for a second that it reduces poaching. Poachers are going to do their thing, regardless of the laws. Just my two cents worth.

I think it is just because the white man is not allowed to take sheds on indian land. I talked to an Indian down there who goes out to gather them and sells them. However on another reservation the rule is the same but elk sheds lay everywhere and it didnt appear that anyone picked them up.
