NM unit 2 bull elk

I finally took the plunge and dropped the money for a fully outfitted elk hunt in New Mexicos unit 2, I've never hunted anywhere in NM before and was just wondering if any of you out there have hunted this unit and were willing to share any of your thoughts or experiences. Not looking for advice on hunting locations just for your opinion of the area and the quality of the hunt. Thanks

Very nice! Rifle or Archery?
The hunt can be as good as you want it to be- you can put a lot of boots on the ground or drive, get out walk a bit and shoot.
Plenty of animals. Water is key. Get there a few days early if you can to acclimate and do some day hiking to familiarize yourself...
Your guide should put you on animals pretty quick but its nice to know what to expect.
Ill be in New Mexico looking for a trophy this Fall as well- taking my 12 year old son with and hoping he takes his first Elk.

Thanks for the info signguy, we'll be doing the rifle season. Ill be doing quite a bit of hunting for our archery deer season here in California at 5-8000 feet before the trip so I hope that will help acclimate me to the elevation. I've never hunted elk before so I'm pretty stoked. I'll have my boots laced up and be ready to go for sure. Any problems with bugs, snakes, brush etc that I need to be more prepared than normal for?
