I went to VAFB for the first time this weekend. I was planning on getting there Thursday night and hunt until Monday night. But I am in the military and some things came up and my trip got shortened to Saturday until Monday morning. I couldn’t hunt Saturday because the game warden closes at 0930 and I had to wait until 0830 on Sun to get all the paperwork and get in the field. So I spent most of the day Sunday scouting areas a very helpful gentleman on here told me about. I found a spot that looked good and sat there and waited for dark. Another hunter in that spot told me he took a boar there 3 days earlier. So we split up and hunted different areas of the field at dark. I didn’t see or hear anything. Just as it was getting too dark to take a good shot I got up and started to walk back to the truck when I heard some rustling and snorting about 50 yards from me. I could barely make out 15 or so figures with my binos, but I couldn’t see anything with my scope. So any way, I’m gonna try and make it back for the thanksgiving 96 and hunt that same spot. Some good news for deer hunters though. I saw about 35 deer in the one day I was driving around, including a group of 5 bucks. There was one 4x4, but the biggest was a 3x3 with at least one and a half foot main tines. He’s gonna be good for next year. I saw the group of bucks on the corner of 13th and airfield (next to the Paintball Park.)
