Non 4x4 for FHL

Hey guys was just looking for some info regarding FHL. It's been on my radar for awhile now and being in the Bay Area it seems even more appealing. My only problem is that I don't have a 4wd vehicle so I was wondering what my options are? I've seen there are some walk in TAs but those seemed to be non rifle oriented. I don't mind hiking so if there is a safe place to park then I wouldn't mind putting some miles on my boots. Thanks in advance and if anyone needs a hunting partner in the Bay Area I'd be willing to throw in for gas and help with gear as long as there aren't any Buffalo Bill types out there. I love hunting and if it gets me a step closer to filling my pig tag then I'm set. Thanks again.

You'll be fine if dry as long as you're not climbing steep hills. A lot of areas to park and hike in as well. If raining 2wd will be a no no. I'm also in the Bay and going up this Saturday for the day. If you ever wanna tag along let me know.

It all about the weather and the TA you plan to go into; Ive seen Honda Civics and Mini Vans on dry days (of course they were walking from main access roads to into the TA's). You will have a better understanding after a couple visits.

Thanks guys. That's pretty much what I was thinking so I just need to get out there once I'm done with finals and try some scouting. I'll have to take you up on that outbraker. I wouldn't even mind not bringing my rifle and just helping out if it gets me comfortable with FHL. I was just nervous because I have a chevy malibu and its not much for dirt roads. If I had a truck that would be a different story even if it was just 2wd. Just need to fill this dang tag because I've been on guided hunts twice and the last time we were really close but missed the herd by minutes while another group picked them off. If the roads are dry pretty much any car with decent clearance will do. You might not want to drive your 911 coupe down there, though.

If the roads are wet, even 4WD won't save you. You can get gawd-awful stuck on a wet road that looks just fine. Been there, done that, have the T-shirt.

I live in the East Bay, over by Diablo. I have a 4WD Tahoe that is a proven pig hauler, and now that gas is $4/gallon a split might be refreshing. I'll leave my hatchet at home - Scout's Honor.

I'd still be driving all over the good pig areas in dry weather even if a Chevy Malibu was all I have. I once saw a father/daughter cutting up a pig and their Pontiac Sunbird was parked 10 feet away.

That's because you're a beast live2hunt. I just didn't know what the road conditions were like considering all the stories I've read on towing and getting stuck down there. 200 in towing on top of the 730 I just paid on repairs would make for an awesome day. I'll send in my FHL app this weekend while I'm back home and get the ball rolling on that. My finals are the first week in March so after that I should be free to chase some pigs.

Stay on the pavement if not 4x4 and if it rains do not drive off road no matter what. The cost from the local tow company is very high and you will have to pay...
