Non-Lead Ammo required at FHL

Just received a packet in the mail from FHL stating that starting July 1 of this year they are requiring NON-LEAD ammo. Better start buying some and seeing if they change anything. I have been looking for PMC ammo loaded with Barnes but haven't found anyone in the South Bay that carries PMC. I know that Traders has some off and on but don't like going up there. HELP

Looking for 300 win mag and 243.

Didn't realize that PMC was loading Barnes bullets. Federal is loading them, as is Black Hills (I believe).

Winchester is also loading some new bullets, but they probably be out until later in the year. Their initial release is supposed to be the .30 cal family.

PMC has "The Gold Line" which features Barnes bullets. If anyone has seen the PMC Gold Line in the bay area, i would appreciate a heads up.

As far as "NO LEAD", I guess CA is taking a page from NASCAR... now we just need to go forward.

I generally order online, Ev. Cabelas, BassPro, and MidwayUSA are all pretty reliable sources. Local shops aren't going to have the variety, but if you have one close by they'll usually special order for you.

Haven't been to Traders in a while, but last time there they didn't have anything with the Barnes bullets. Castro Valley Gun Shop was supposed to get some, but haven't been there in a while either.

I have been using PMC Goldline loaded with the Barnes X(I bought these all copper PMC ammo back in 1998 when I bought my Tikka .300WM and my BAR .338WM). I still have enough left over for several more pig hunting episodes. I bought these at Turner's Outdoorsman on sale. They are accurate enough for me in my rifles. I have no coppering problem either. So the switch to NON-LEAD ammo is not going to change my hog hunting ammo habits. I bought these PMC Goldline Barnes X factory ammo due to the article in California Hog Hunter newsletter that advised using heavy construction bullets on hogs for penetration. It has worked marvelously for me. No hogs lost yet. And also with all copper bullets I have no concern regarding microscopic lead fragments getting into the dinner table. 'Nuff said.

How 'bout non lead shotgun slugs????? I hate to ask....

I believe Remington is making "Buckhammer" slugs out of the same hi-density material they use for their shot shells. Also making buckshot with that material.

Barnes has a shotgun slug, and also has all-copper muzzleloader bullets.

It's all possible, but until there was a demand nobody but Barnes seemed to want to put the research and development dollars into it. I have a feeling that Winchester/Nosler are only the first of many coming down the pike with lead-free solutions.

I have been looking into them also. As stated, I found 30-06 with Barnes bullets from Federal, Blackhills and PMC. I also found them from Cor-Bon. A little faster for 168 grain bullet from the federals in 165. I have always had good luck with Federal ammo from my 2 guns so I just odered 2 boxes of them in 165 grain. I already have the PMC's so I can check them against each other next time at the range.

Bill, yes there are slugs listed for Federal. Never tried them though, just happen to notice them on the page.

Does anyone shoot black hills ammo? Their 223 remanufactured ammo is great for the price but it sounds like I need to start looking at the largers calibers pretty soon.
