Non-resident tag fees for CA elk.

I saw that they were offering nonresidents a crack at elk this year. I will not be applying as the $1,050 tag is way beyond my tag budget. Figure that fee plus X years ($123.50+ annual increase) in a bull drawing = $$$$.

That means one less out of the hundreds that put in so your that much closer to drawing.

It's cheaper than a Nevada elk tag!
The application fee isn't much and CA is the only place to get a Tule Elk, if you're already buying the license for something else you might as well apply.

Our Division of Wildlife had a meeting about raising the Nonresident Bull Tag Fee's, dont know what they decided though. I think we should raise it to $1173 too. Same amount of money would be brought in, but maybe half as many hunters.

Maybe it will happen now that we finally have a Govenor that appears to be listening to the Sportsmen of this State.

CO, we've had this debate before and either you don't get it or you just hate non-residents. There is no comparison to a Tule Elk that ONLY exist in CA, and Colorado elk that hold the largest herds in the country. How much does CO charge for a non-res Mt. Goat ? or Big Horn sheep? or a Shiras Moose ? Get over it ! We are all Americans and it's all our land.

A bill was passed that allows up to one elk tag and one antelope tag for non-residents. So your odds will not change hardly at all. If a non-resident is lucky enough to draw then no other non-residents will be drawn for that year. They can put in for any hunt they like in the state. If you look at the cost it is only a little over 3 times what residents pay, compare that to any other state for non-resident tags and it seems a bargain.

Considering the number of tags in CA and the odds of drawing that price is in line with every other state for Non res.

I would continue to apply in CA. However, CA has other problems to discourage non res from applying. They have an inept customer service dept.

I had max points before i moved to NM from CA and i mailed myselfs and my families applications in 2nd day mail thru the USPO 2 weeks before the deadline.

I got a call a week after the deadline saying they had just got it that day. A bunch of inept liars. I decided then i would never hunt in CA again.

I just sent in my new CO survey that was mailed to out-of-state hunters who have usually hunted cow in the past. Most the questions dealt with my thoughts on CO raising UR tag costs for both cows & bulls in the coming years.
