Hey All,

I am planning a trip to San Diego this weekend. But I came across a link on San Diego's Homepage saying: "Turkey hunting is offered at Sutherland only" .

Does this mean that I am only allowed to hunt there or is the public land in Cleveland National Forest still open??? Sorry if this is a stupid question but a ton these laws contradict themselves and the wording isn't always clear.

[h=4]Here is the link: http://www.sandiego.gov/water/recreation/reservoirs/hunting.shtml#turkey
Turkey Hunting[/h]Turkey hunting is offered from late March to early May at Sutherland Reservoir only. Reservations are distributed at the "Turkey Tune-Up", on the fourth Saturday of February. To be added to the email list, send an email to water@sandiego.gov with your name and email address, and "Turkey hunting" in the subject line, this list is email only. Permits are required.

But I also found this on the Forestry site: http://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/cleveland/recreation/hunting/?cid=stelprdb5275787

Game Birds
Band-tailed Pigeons
California and Mountain Quail
Ducks and Geese
Mourning Dove
Turkey
The following animals are found on the Cleveland National Forest.

And this says nothing about limiting "San Diego Wild Turkeys" to only Sutherland:
http://www.fgc.ca.gov/regulations/current/uplandgamebirdregs.aspx

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Guy that doesn't want to accidentally break a law

you can hunt legally for turkey on any and all National Forest land, Cleveland NF included. Sutherland is private.

Best area is near Julian based on reports and never feel bad about being confused by anything the DFG puts out.

Thanks to both of you.

And I appreciate this. The other confusing thing is the Condor Preserve. All areas are lead free, however the current law states that the Taking of Upland Game is still legal take with lead... However (Squared) it is illegal to possess lead anywhere while inside a Condor Preserve. It's a real head scratcher on who writes these laws. I have just been playing it safe and using Steel or Hevi-Shot

All of California will be led free by 2019 something to think about.

Except for the fact that what he is referring to are regulations put out by the US Forest Service and San Diego County.

That's because you can hunt upland game with lead in the condor areas, like the regs say. You can't hunt big game, or nongame animals in the condor areas with lead ammo.
