My buddy drew a permit for the North Chimineas drive on hunt for dove and pigs for September 10, 2011, and we decided to give it a try. We had quite a show of lightning on the drive up, and there was lightning going off all around us during the day. This did not help the dove situation as there were some scattered showers going with the lightning along with some extra wind. We arrived at the gate early for the 0600 check-in, and Fish and Game arrived about 0540 and started checking guys in. We hunted the northwest portion of the ranch and were looking for pigs. We didn't see any fresh sign and talked to a number of guys who were having similar results. There weren't any pig taken when we checked out. We ended up getting one dove, but we didn't really hunt that hard for them. Others were scratching a few doves and one guy had checked out with a limit. Temperatures were NOT too hot for a September. There were some elk on the west side, but we didn't end up seeing them. We saw some cottontails, but it was before daylight.
