I am wanting to head down to Ca. this fall or early winter and hunt some spot and stalk hogs with a rifle. I would like a guided, or private land hunt with a good population density and reasonable opportunity success. I'm not interested in a public land hunt.

I've read about some areas in Northern Ca. where hunters are seeing 100 hogs a day on private game managed ranches. I'm not sure where in Ca these are at but the further north the better for me as it's much less driving time. I can make it to Redding in 10 hours which is about as far as I want to drive in one day.

Any suggestions?

You could try Burrows Ranch in Redding/Red Bluff area. It is about $500 and you stay in a nice cabin and they feed you VERY WELL. Pigs are there.

Burrow's Ranch .... Red Bluff, California. Bill Burrows. PH# 530-529-1535.

A friend of mine just mounted a pig taken from that ranch. I dont remember how much it weighed but I know it was over 300 lbs. From what I was told the owner said in 20 years he has only had 2 people go out of there empty handed and that was because they just couldnt hit anything.

JJ,

There are definitely hogs as far north as Red Bluff. Somewhere on here is a thread about hogs in OR... but I don't have any info there.

Burrows Ranch and Dye Creek are both up in the Redding/Red Bluff area. Dye Creek at one point (was it last year... anybody?) put a moratorium on their hog hunts due to a drop in the numbers, but you'd have to call down to see if they're back on. Never hunted with either organization, but both have received positive reviews in Hog Hunter Magazine and Western Hunter online newsletter. Might buzz Jim Matthews or Jerry Springer (not the one from TV) for more info.

I'm looking at some property up that way right now, and would be more than happy to host you if it comes through... but that's a BIG if, and won't be final any time soon... Unless I hit the lotto....

You can also try Kyle Fox at Shasta Outfitters. Just outside of Red Bluff Ca. We hunted a beautiful private ranch of 12,000 acres and saw plenty of hogs. The guest house was very nice and food great.
