Hikingwithguns, i guess there where some gunners who didnt abide by the rules of lake sonoma hunting season which is in partnership with the army corp. , park, and the friends of lake sonoma which is made up of all the private Landowners who border the lake, and they have the biggest say when it comes to whats going on during the hunting season at the lake.
If i recall the reasons, trash, shooting up stuff they shoudnt be shooting, crossing the borders of private landowners ( tresspessing ) and some other reasons.

Its so important as archers and bowhunters more than ever to not blow our opportunity to hunt lake sonoma. Man, i mean there are really is not that many good public places like lake sonoma to hunt left in these parts of ca..

In the past few years we have slowly lost area and sections of lake sonoma to hunt already because of bad hunters who pushed the buttkns of the friends of lake sonoma who property borders the lake and hunting areas.

So everyone needs to be concious at all times when hunting the lake, landowners are paying attention and they do let the park officials know when hunters are behaving badly. Then we end up hunting loosening Privileges, land and hunting the lake like the few bad gunners who ruined it for all the good gunners a couole of years ago.
Lake sonoma is a beautiful Lake to hunt and ther are monster pigs. uploadfromtaptalk1348802011926.jpg there, where thats another story........tra

Ah that's too bad. Some beautiful country up there as I recall from my Jr deer hunt and pig hunting when you could use slugs.

nice, the area is to small to have unrestricted number of gun hunter. it was quite the zoo when shotguns were allowed without a quota like they do on their managed deer hunts cant wait for the season to start

season starts soon Sancho, our Lake Sonoma Goddess is in the process of getting our hunter package together right now, it looks like the placards will be purple this year instead of pink. al i am estatic that i will be able to hunt the lake finally without having to request time of and thats the biggest relief for me, i can just get up go!

i already have been going through my gear and ordering some little new hunting goodies for this season that i dont have yet. i will be super ready for the rainy season for sure this year with 2 complete sets of bass pro rain gear and rocky boots and and i am finally going to buy a peets boot dryer to dry them boots faster and more properly, other than that i got all the hunting gear i need. just look forward to getting away from the rat race and enjoy the beauty and serinity of hunting lake sonoma for wild pigs again this season and hopefully Cliff we can get together for a hunt at the lake. talk to ya soon!....tra

Yo!

Hey what do you guys think about using a Jon boat out there. I live close to the lake and it seemed like that was the way to get in there quickly. It's on my list just wondering what you guys think since it sounds like you've hit it pretty hard there.

A boat is by far the best way to hunt the lake. You're able to cover more ground quicker plus everything is down hill back to the boat.

Yep, anything with a motor. You can row, but it's a ways in and out. If you can hand launch I'd launch from Yorty Creek. It's a lot closer to the back end of the lake, I had a buddy get one last spring hiking around the beach area there. Only issue is getting them out of the steep canyons. If you're in a boat it's all downhill and much easier than when you're on foot.
