I have been reading and viewing everyones fine photos here on this forum, alot of great Information here... I really like the Oly C 750 Camera and was wondering could I increase the Optical Zoom feature by a lens change? Is this possible on this camera to add a "I believe" a Teleconverter to increase my Zoom ability.

I am almost positive that you can add a teleconverter to that cam. I think others have this cam and can back me up on this. Here is a link to a teleconverter and the required adapter that you would need for the C-750. That would give you 17x optical. That is pretty good power to reach out and touch somebody!

Thank you LandLord and Boss Gobbler for the replies... I have enjoyed viewing the photos several of you have collected on this here forum and would like to become Involved in it myself. The optical zoom of the Oly C750 caught my eye, then if I can add a Teleconverter that would as you say allow me to reach out and touch someone. Thanks for the Great Info. That review site is really packed full of Information

I think I am deciding against the Oly 750... Considering the DSLR for more versatility and better Lens Ability. Model I am considering is the Cannon EOS-10D

Looks like its reasonably priced and should give some good options with lens choices, anyone own this camera or has some Insight on the plunge I am still considering

The 10D is a very fine digital camera made to be used with the very fine and very expensive Canon lenses. It is sold as a camera body only, without a lens. $1,500 is a good price for it. Better be sitting down when you price the lenses. IMO you won't find more camera for the $ ($500 range) than the Oly C-750. You can add Tele, Wide Angle and Macro extender lenses for about $100 each. The Olympus extender lenses are high quaility, although I prefer Raynox. You can check out their products and sample pics at www.raynox.com .

I am also considering the Olympus C-750. I read somewhere that it requires Windows 2000.

Is this true? Can I just get a card reader to get around Windows 2000. I am using Win 98

Thanks

Hood - Win 98 should just read it as another drive from a direct USB connection without installing a driver unless they have changed things. I have ME and it reads my C-730. The download is so quick I don't use a reader. A card reader is a quick and cheap way around any problems with the OS. However, be sure to format the card in the camera and not the reader. WB

Thanks for the information.

I have a couple more questions if you don't mind.

Does it have a lens cap?

Can you put a uv filter on it for more protection?

How long is the 10x lens? It looks short, but on a 35mm this would probably be a pretty big lens.

Thanks Again

It does come with a lens cap and the lens is very short, not even noticed when shooting.

Hood - A "Conversion Lens Adapter" piece screws into the camera body around the camera lens tube. The filters are mounted to the adapter, which stays on the camera all the time to protect the lens. Sounds complicated but it is simple when you see it. Some suppliers sell the adapter, UV filter and polarizer in a "kit" and give you a break on the price. The adapter tube mounted on the camera also gives you a better grip on the camera. About the lens size - yes it is small, much smaller than 35mm gear. The camera weighs only 10 1/2 ounces and is compact. Great for the field. If you get one you can PM me and I will help you find the accessories you need. Henry

Well I made the Plunge and went ahead Bought and received today an Oly C-750 ... I decided against the 10D based on price and my useage of the camera.

I was looking to upgrade from my standard point and click camera which was a Kodak DCDC3400...To something several steps up, the 10x optical zoom won out for me.

Broke it out and played with it tonoight in the house, Its a bit smaller than I would like it to be, but will fit into my Backpack for tree stand hunting and photographing game from stand, So it should work out well.

I also got the 1.7x TCon and the .7 Wcon lenses as well as the Cla-4 adapter for the above lenses. I have not yet played with these lenses.

As for the camera itself I took several shots in the house with it tonight, Found on auto functions camera has difficulty with focus and wants flash pretty much all the time. flash is not a concern since it was not all that well lit due to rain and cloud cover lacked natural lighting so lit a few lamps to help the scnerio still in much of the shots flash was still needed. the Focus problem I seemed to get around with added lighting, anxious to try it outdoors once the rain lets up.

Undecided yet, But hope to offer more once I get a lil more time playing with it. I think most of my Undecisiveness is my lack of understanding in how it operates, but I'll get there.

Ohio - Here's a tip. The detailed manual is on the CD in PDF format. It's huge but good and you will need it to learn the camera's many features. If you do not have a lazer printer my advice is to take the CD to a pro copy shop like Kinkos and have them print and spiral bind it with a protective cover. Should cost in the $20 range and is about the best $ you will spend. Also, get a couple of sets of Nimh AA batteries. These cameras are easy on juice as digital cameras go, but using the LCD and flash will use them up quick. Have fun and post some pics when you can. WB

I assume that it does have a feature that allows you to turn off the flash.

I want to use the camera mostly for outdoor photography. So low light is a concern. How well can you see the picture in the viewfinder/LED when taking pictures in low light?

Thanks again for the help.

Dan,

If you don't mind saying, where did you get the camera? Good price?

Thanks

WildBird,

Good information indeed. I have the Cd on the puter and been looking it over and have a Officejet D 145 I will ink some copies and bind it like you suggested for quick easy referance. As for batteries I have lots I am big into the Homebrew game cameras and have plenty to spare 1850 AA nimh batteris...

Hood,

The picture can be viewed thru the picture window or on the LCD. I prefer the window myself but found both easy to use... In low light its harder to see, but better than my other digital.

For outdoor wildlife photography say from a tree stand in VERY ealry morning light, likely gonna be a bit diificult to see. but thru the window its going to be as real as it can be.

The 10x your gonna like. get the Tcon Teleconverter lens and adapter ring CLA-4 it really brings them in. This is what I mainly bought the camera for tree stand hunting and pleasure photography while on stand.

I got my camera from Outpost.com I found it thru DPReview on the Olympus Thread theres a guy there by the name of Bill Hubber that turned me onto it. it was $399.00 plus 12.50 for OVERNIGHT shipping. and 5.5% sales tax HERE IN OHIO total shipped was $422.44

This price was a special advertised price after the deal was announced on DPReview.Com several bought a camera approx 8 rite away and then the add was pulled and stated camera was out of stoc and backordered... several called to have them backordered and were told that camera offer has been pulled. Fortuantely I was one of the Lucky individuals that was able to take advantage. I was in the rite place at the rite time.

OBH, did you get the Tcon Teleconverter lens and adapter ring CLA-4 with the camera or purchase separetly? I've been thinking about them for my C-740 and was wondering if it was worth it. I'd like to see some pics taken with and w/o to see the difference.

Good price you got there!!

FYI - The TCON lenses only work at the full zoom setting of the camera. Otherwise the edges of the frame are darkened ("vignetting"). The front is not threaded for filters, so a protective one like UV cannot be installed. I have a Raynox 1540 tele and it allows zooming with a clear image for much of the upper end of the zoom range. The front is threaded and I keep a protective filter on at all times. See them at www.raynox.com WB

I went and looked at the C-740 in person. While I want the C-750, I was interested in seeing the 10x Optical, size of the camera, etc.

It wasn't what I expected. The camera is much smaller than I thought it would be, which is good in my opinion as it makes it easier to pack along on hunting trips.

However, it didn't seem like the 10x was really an equal to a 360mm on a standard 35mm. I am sure I am wrong, but it just did not seem to have the magnification that I expected. I have a 200mm and it seems as good as the 10x if not better.

It was hard for me to tell as it had a cable attached to the display area and I couldn't zoom in on anything distant and get a good feel for the power.

I am also wondering how they can make that lens so small when a 360mm lens for a 35mm would be a lot bigger.

How far away could a deer be and still have it's body fill the picture frame?

Can anyone offer advice?

Thanks.

Hood,
I belive that the reason the 35mm lenses are bigger is because you have to expose the film in the camera. Look at a slide. That is the amount of area that has to be exposed. The CCD, which is what captures the light in digital cameras, is much smaller in area. Therefore it doesn't need as big of a lense to focus the light correctly on that small of an area.

I have the olympus 2100 which also has the 10x zoom. I was recently comparing the visual qualities of that camera with my 10x50 binos. The camera lense is 49mm so it should be very comparable. One thing that I did notice though, is that the binoculars have a much narrower field of view than the image captured by the camera. Other than that, I would say, based on the pictures that I have taken, the 10x on the camera really is 10x.
