Well I don't like my new camera. Walmart will take it back for a full refund. I have been reading here and other places about a possible digital camera. I really like to take wildlife pictures. I am leaning a little towards the Olympus C4000. Anyone have any comments or info. How is the delay on the Olympus?

Pro, what camera did you buy that you don't like? Just curious!

I've looked at the C-4000 but don't know much about it. I'd like to hear any info someone might have on it too. Like you I'm interested in taking pictures of deer etc, but I still want an affordable camera. I was looking at the C-730UZ but I just don't know if I want to spend the money or not. I have the D-490Z which is a much lower end Olympus but man, I love it. I've been very happy with the 2.1 megapixels, I just want a good zoom.

I'd have to look and see what all the Oly C-4000 has on it to compare really well, as I have the C-3000. It has 3X optical zoom, 3.3megapix. It's an excellent camera, I think, BUT.....
I also like taking wildlife pictures. What is the zoom on the C-4000? Mine only has 3X, and that is definitely not enough. I ended up buying a 5X Eagle Eye lens, but I don't think it's as good as a camera with a 10X lens right from the get-go.
I think my camera take really good closeup pictures, but that 3X optical zoom just isn't enough. The 5x lens I added brings some restrictions with it. For example, I pretty much lose the zoom feature; with the 5x on there, I have to keep it at full zoom or it sees the edges of the add-on lens. Also, there is definite vignetting around the edges of the photo, especially if I do more the lowest F-stop of 2.8.
I say, if you want to shoot wildlife, get something with at least 5X optical lens, preferably more like a 10X.

Hello prohunter,

If you really want to shoot mostly wildlife get a 10x optical zoom. I wish my Olumpus 2100 was more than 10x optical even. I have a 1.7x tele lens I use to get out there even more but it needs more light and it seems to loose some color when I use it.

Here is a Tule elk pic taken with the 1.7 lens from about 150 yards away. Without the tele lens and only the 10x optical zoom you need to be about 75 yards from your animal or target to get a decent pic that fills the frame. Sometimes getting to within 100 or 75 yards isn't possible so all the zoom you can buy helps.

I wanted to get an Eagle Eye 5x tele like AnnieAK has but it doesn't work with my camera because of the lens size. The Eagle Eyes work great with the Nikons and otehr cams with smaller lenses. Check out the digiscoping threads here on long distance photography with spotting scopes. Awesome stuff. I just have to buy another camera to di it.

Seriously, if you get a camera, let us know. Out at my parents place there is a field that borders the country road leading to their house that always has deer in it. I actually have permisson to hunt it but never do because it is so close to the road and some houses. Anyway, every evening there will be from 4-8 does out on the wood line about 50 yrds from the county road. Sure enough tonight there were out there, so I grabbed my D-490 with it's 3x optical zoom and fired a couple shots. Sheesh, at 50 yrds in the pictures the deer looked like ants!lol Seriously, it could have been a 150 class buck and it would have looked like a spike.lol I've GOT to get a good zoom!

Ok if you say so...but if you change your mind!
I am still looking & Olympus seems to have what I want in a zoom (& what I can afford). I am still open to suggestions. Thanks all!
