I think it is a good camera. I have the Olympus D-490Z which is bascially an earlier version of the D-550. I have never actually used the 550 but I have held it and looked it over. The one thing I didn't like was the pop up flash it had. The earlier D-series cameras give the user the option of manually flipping up the flash when needed. It is a 3.0 megapixel where as my 490 is only a 2.1 megapixel. I really like my 490 and it takes great pictures that turn out very clear. I'm sure that the 3.0 megapixels will only make the 550's pictures even better. I think for the price the 550 is a great entry level camera. However, I'm at the point now where I want to get rid of my 490 and get something with a bigger zoom. The 3x zoom just isn't enough for anything more than personal snapshots but that is what the camera is made for.
So over all I think it is a great camera. The better question is what do you think about it?
