We did it again.
My partner, whom i did not want to call in the night last time, got really upset that i even did not try, so i made him a promise that we will go on his first opportunity.
So, he called me in the middle of the week and asked i we are OK to go this coming Saturday. Sure I’m. I do not know about you guys, but hunting... I’m ready any time and any day.
But i knew I’ll have a problem with my wife since i promised her to take her mushroom picking same Saturday.
Called her at work and asked if she want to take day off on Friday for her mushrooming enterprise. She agreed so, Saturday hunt is on.
My hunting partner arrived to my house on Friday night, we had a nice dinner and next morning at 3AM we left the house full of hopes discussing how many pigs we should kill, and what we are going to do with the third pig and where to get 4th and 5th pig tag. It is we talking about public lend, remember? LOL.
In one word the expectations were very high and for some reason we were sure that dozens of pigs are just waiting for our arrival.
Around 5AM we starter heading to an area we wanted to investigate. In the dark we could hear some movements some snoring, the usual pig noises but it was too early to shoot and too dark to see anything.
At some point we decided to split since my partner liked the area we were at, but i wanted to check a hilly side of the area about 1-1.5 miles to the North.
I could not see much signs of pigs where i was. Got on the hill to glass at the valley beneath me. Around 8AM i see a huge pig crossing the valley about a mile away from me heading to the general direction where my partner was. I quickly radioed him that some bacon on its way to his plate.
My partner tells me that it is not a good time right now since he is attending a more important private business and cannot take his attention away from it and chase some stupid hogs. (LOL Just teasing him if he reads this post)
Not yet finished talking to him, i see a group of 9-10 pigs following steps of the first one. I radioed him again with the report but did not get any response.
After short period of time I hear a shot, and then another and another.
Oops, we don’t have so many tags I thing, he needs to stop shooting.
I radio him again and he tell me “I’m pursuing wounded pig”… (his exact words)
A minute later he reports” A pig is down”
Good, we can go home now I think to miself,
A minute later I hear shots from his direction again, one, two, three…
I radio him to ask how many pigs he waned to kill. He says “now this pig is officially down”
Finally! Headed to his direction, found him waiting for me. OK now let go get the car.
While walking on the trail I see a big Rottweiler is running towards us around 300 yards away.
OK, it is just I need now, think I to myself. But when this thing got closer I realized it is just a black pig with a yellow nose looking like a Rottweiler running at our direction.
Stop tell I my friend, here is my pig. Some 60-70 yards from us the pig realizes that something is fishy cooking, turns 90 degrees and runs away. I quickly aim and at the second I shoot my partner shoots behind me shocking the living crap out me or what is the correct expression.
Needless to say I missed. Gathered myself, quickly reloaded, aimed and let it fly.
The pig started running away from us dragging his hind legs. I did not want to take another shot since it was already 150 yards away and heading away from us. I started running to circle it to have a broadside shot. The pig was drugging himself not very fast, so I had an opportunity to get within 50 yard from his side. This time clean neck shot sealed the deal.
