Bird hunter survives mauling by young deer
A Sandy Oregon man is recovering after an attack that you might not expect.
He was mauled, and by his own account, almost killed by a deer while hunting birds in Eastern Oregon.
Willy Wallace said he came across a young Buck that was apparently injured by another hunter.|
When the animal charged, Wallace says instinct took over and told him to hold on, and fight back.
"The blow from this animal hitting me, he come up on his back legs and with all of his force, it me," said Wallace. "The forks were every bit as big as this, but much more sharp, and I couldn't let go of them, because this animal was very wild, and I knew if I let go, he'd get me."
Wallace did have a shotgun with him, but at such a close range, he chose to use his Leatherman tool to finally kill the animal.
Wallace hopes others will learn from his experience.
